  • Who. Where. Bait. Where.

  • What were the things (or one thing) that attracted you to the offer/thing you want to buy/do (for me I moved to being an affiliate after investing too much time into startups that never got to a stage that I would “sell” the product… being an affiliate I can sell right away)

  • Where are your people congregating? Throw your bait into that pond.

  • Blogs, email lists, FB groups, …

  • Focus on WHO and WHERE (as an entrepreneur you can pay people to do the “tactics” of running the ads, etc …Contract it out to the experts)

  • 3 Types Of Traffic:

    1. Traffic you control - Paid traffic. Facebook Ads (Facebook own the people) but I can control where those people go. Send them to squeeze page.
    2. Traffic you don’t control - SEO. People just turn up. Other stuff on Facebook (e.g. a shared post from something funny). Send them to blog (in my case this could be AffiliateTeams forum)
    3. Traffic you own - convert the above two types of traffic to THIS. Don’t pay anything to reach them again. Email list.
  • KPI - how many people added to email list per day

  • Goal: $1 in. $1 out. Break Even… now this person belongs to traffic you own.

  • If you’re breaking even then there is no such thing as an advertising budget… you’ll put as much into it as possible because it’s not costing you anything and it’s making you money on the backend. Just keep re-investing what comes out of the funnel - crank it up. “free advertising”

  • You don’t create traffic. It is already out there on FB, listening to a podcast, reading someones email. You just need to find a way to divert it towards you.

  • Tony Robins: If you want to become the best in the world at something, you go and find out who is the best in the world, and you model them. Do exactly what they do. Find the best person - copy them.

  • Don’t reinvent the wheel. Find what is already working perfectly and model it.

  • Don’t start your funnel until you know your competitors and their funnel.

  • WHERE

    • Direct competitors - if I’m selling weight-loss e-book, who else is selling a weight-loss e-book?

    • Indirect competitors - if I’m selling a weight-loss e-book, who are the people selling weight-loss supplements, weight-loss magic creams, fitness things… etc

  • WHAT?

    • Demographics - Who are they selling to?

    • Offer - What are they selling? How are they selling it? Transcribe their sales videos and break down exactly what they are offering. You have to buy your competitors product and take video/screenshots and analyse the funnel and email sequence so you can reverse engineer it.

    • Landing Page - Page/s they are driving traffic to.

    • Traffic Source - Where is this competitor buying traffic from?

    • Ad Copy - What are the headlines? Emails? Images?

  • Never have two unknowns in the WHAT list.

  • ClickBank is a good place to find your competitors

  • In ClickBank find the top offers by popularity - and the one that is the closest to what you want to do/are doing.

  • If you think you can make it look better…don’t! What they have is working.

  • Banners Ads - Direct (you go direct to the site and ask to advertise - contact 10 people and used them to bid against each other. Do initial test on 3 sites. “I’m willing to spend $1000” these other sites will give it to me for X) or Network (money goes too quickly - too many sites to analyse the traffic - 1000’s sites)

  • “How can I give myself a raise today?”… a new traffic source is a great way to get this (after you have an offer that is working).

  • Buying email ads from the site competitor is buying banner ads on. Email can be tested fast. When testing out a funnel Russell prefers this.

  • Who of my indirect competitors has an email list?

  • Give someone 100% commission to sell something - and I keep the subscribers. Amateurs focus on the frontend.

  • Solo Ads: Can I buy an ad on your email list? I’ll pay you, but I keep all the $ on sales

  • Solo Ads: “Make money”/“Business opportunity” list quality has dropped.

  • How much to pay on email list? (list brokers used to negotiate the deal)

  • Email is the fastest way to see results and test your funnel

  • Identify the point in your frontend funnel that isn’t working and change it. Split test Email subject lines, Headlines and CTA’s.

  • Focusing just on Email and Facebook traffic is more than enough (email for speed of testing … Facebook for speed and targeting). Master these first before anything else. Russell work master these in sequence: Email -> Facebook -> Banner -> YouTube
