00:00
welcome to funnel hacker radio podcast
00:02
where we go behind the scenes and
00:05
uncover the tactics and strategies top
00:07
entrepreneurs are using to make more
00:09
sales dominate their market and how you
00:12
can get those same results
00:14
here is your host Dave Woodward hey
00:17
everybody welcome back to put a hacker
00:18
radio I’m your host Dave Woodward today
00:20
guys are in for a real treat this is a
00:22
little different than some things we’ve
00:23
talked about in the past where you
00:24
should be spend time talking about
00:25
funnels I want to make sure we spend
00:27
some time talking about the real
00:28
personal aspect of building a business
00:31
and that’s the importance of networking
00:32
so for that I’ve actually brought on
00:34
live SATA who is oversees all the
00:37
partnerships and all the marketing from
00:39
one of the largest networking events
00:41
lilius throughout the United States and
00:43
that is a company called Network after
00:45
work so Elias welcome thanks so much
00:48
Dave happy to be here so let’s just kind
00:51
of dive right in
00:52
it’s you know we’re talking here to an
00:53
audience or funnel hackers who spend a
00:56
lot of time obviously behind a computer
00:57
and you know building sales funnels all
01:00
that kind of stuff yet at the same time
01:01
with my line of work as far as doing all
01:03
the business development the top-line
01:05
revenue for clickfunnels it’s all about
01:07
relationships and people and I really
01:08
want to make sure that people understand
01:09
as to listen to the podcast you cannot
01:12
forget there’s people or on the other
01:14
side of those screens or whether it’s on
01:16
your mobile phones or computers were
01:17
seeing all your funnels and how you
01:19
actually connect with them so a life I’d
01:21
like to kind of just kind of dive right
01:22
in talk a little bit about what what
01:25
have you learned over the years as far
01:26
as the importance of networking and how
01:28
to do it effectively absolutely I think
01:31
networking for small business owners is
01:33
is really a very inexpensive and
01:37
effective strategy to go out and and
01:39
connect with other small business owners
01:41
there’s certainly various different
01:44
benefits that the networking and as an
01:47
online marketer myself I do have some
01:49
specific tips knowing the funnel hacker
01:51
community and click funnels in general I
01:53
have some some quick tips I’d like to
01:55
share because you’re right it’s very
01:58
easy to forget that you know to be
02:01
behind your computer and to forget that
02:03
there’s people out there and that
02:04
there’s opportunities to really go out
02:06
and connect with people you know on a
02:08
monthly basis or so so I wanted to share
02:10
some
02:11
tips networking tips that I think would
02:13
be really effective for for online
02:15
marketing professionals let’s just go
02:17
right into them awesome so with with
02:21
funnel hackers in general lots of them I
02:23
see them that they’re targeting a lot of
02:25
professional services so I see a lot of
02:27
chiropractors and lawyers and things
02:29
like that and one of the strategies that
02:32
that’s implemented is I see a lot
02:33
specifically with SEO and online
02:35
marketing is kind of conducting a free
02:37
audit right reaching out to a small
02:39
business owner or local chiropractor or
02:41
local attorneys small business owner and
02:43
various different industries and sending
02:45
them basically a knotted either of their
02:48
website or their advertisement or
02:50
whatnot and instead of reaching out to
02:52
them through email networking events
02:54
provide the opportunity for you to
02:56
face-to-face meet with that prospective
02:59
customer of yours to pitch them on your
03:02
audit and the services that that you’re
03:04
able to offer with them so I think being
03:06
able to offer that audit and demonstrate
03:08
your expertise is really vital and doing
03:11
it face to face can be more effective
03:13
than sending an email or LinkedIn
03:15
message I think it sounds great so tell
03:18
me it’s kind of like I deal with this I
03:20
get approached all the time it’s part of
03:23
it cuz I’m a mountain a lot of the
03:24
businesses and a lot of you vets people
03:26
are always you know approaching me say
03:28
you know they come up and it’s all about
03:30
them they’re the first thing they’re
03:31
trying to do is make sure that you know
03:33
gosh I’d love to have Brussels promote
03:35
this or we’ll click funnels promoters
03:36
for them I’m always caught off guard by
03:38
how just thoughtless I guess the lack of
03:43
a better term out some people are as
03:44
they’re approaching others to work with
03:46
them and so if you don’t like to kind of
03:48
help people understand what are the do’s
03:50
and don’ts of of networking and how to
03:53
actually network effectively absolutely
03:56
so you want to start off by building you
03:58
know by by introducing yourself and
04:00
essentially building rapport with
04:01
someone it’s not a pitch fest so if
04:04
you’re going in with the intention to to
04:06
to generate sales at that specific event
04:09
that that’s really not what networking
04:12
events are all about it’s about building
04:14
rapport building relationships and
04:16
getting to know people and and increase
04:18
your own network you know one of the
04:20
main networking myths is that is that
04:23
folks don’t really
04:25
you’re not really able to sell a product
04:27
at an event and that’s absolutely true
04:28
you’re there to generate referrals and
04:31
leads and and really just connect with
04:33
other small business owners so rule
04:36
number one is really don’t don’t pitch
04:38
initially you want to really understand
04:41
who you’re talking to and understand
04:42
what they’re looking for and what what
04:45
their core specialty is and you want to
04:48
demonstrate your expertise and that’s
04:50
you know one of my main tips for for the
04:52
community here is demonstrate your
04:54
expertise by giving free advice you’re
04:56
building more credibility as an online
04:59
expert so by generating and demonstrated
05:03
expertise you’re going to you’re going
05:05
to be perceived as more of an expert and
05:08
it’s going to attract them to you and I
05:10
think that’s that’s really essential is
05:12
go in there with width of what the
05:15
process of delivering value and building
05:17
relationships versus selling yourself or
05:20
selling your service I love that yeah I
05:22
actually just got back from Jeff
05:24
Walker’s product launch formula live he
05:25
was down in Phoenix and last week was
05:29
creating networking meeting for me it’s
05:31
kind of started off with gel polishes
05:33
genius Network spent the day the
05:35
following day over at Robert Kiyosaki’s
05:37
and being grouchy all season and again
05:40
all about relationships and I was
05:41
thinking about actually was talking to
05:43
Russell about just this morning about
05:45
the importance we’re off to in the port
05:47
right now at a part where we’re about
05:48
ready to launch Russell’s next book
05:50
expert secrets and so we’re I’m reaching
05:53
out for a lot of favors right now as far
05:55
as helping people they’re asking people
05:56
to help promote the book and we’ve
05:59
talked about the importance of really
06:00
digging that well way way way in advance
06:03
I could tell you right now if I was just
06:05
now starting to reach out to people
06:06
saying hey you know what would you I
06:07
know you’ve never done anything I’ve
06:09
never done thing for you I’d love for
06:10
you to promote this book even as great
06:11
as it is they’re still going to be kind
06:13
of put off by that and so for me I know
06:15
the importance of digging that well is
06:17
and it’s one of those things obviously
06:19
it’s been a huge topic on my mind really
06:22
why I wanted to have on the podcast is I
06:24
so I was at Jeff Walker’s product launch
06:26
formula live while I’m there I’ve got a
06:29
quick funnel shirt on and we’ve got a
06:31
booth and this guy came up to me and the
06:34
first time that was fine I was just like
06:35
you know hey Dave gosh you know tell me
06:37
what type of business you’re in
06:38
what type of you know what what are you
06:40
looking to launch next and I thought
06:42
they sure and so it’s easy to make
06:44
something listen I’ve been with quick
06:45
balls and you know blah blah blah
06:46
he then approached me four other times
06:49
with the exact same pitch line having no
06:52
idea that he’d already spoken to me
06:53
three times prior and I was like you got
06:56
to be a little more aware of who you’re
06:58
talking to him and exactly what you’re
07:01
trying to get out of each meeting so I
07:02
know at least for me I’m I I think it’s
07:06
important that as you go into any event
07:08
that you spend time talking and kind of
07:10
come up with a game plan in advance as
07:12
far as who are maybe some of the top
07:13
people you want to meet or what you know
07:16
what’s your elevator pitch you know
07:17
that’s going to be and I want the kind
07:19
of talked about how do you break the ice
07:21
with somewhat out of network into that
07:22
what are some things you can do or say
07:24
so it doesn’t come across pitchy a great
07:28
question Dave so you a really good
07:30
icebreaker is really talking about the
07:32
the event in general or the setting that
07:34
you’re at so let’s say if you’re on a
07:36
rooftop
07:37
you know mention something about the
07:39
setting that you find yourself in
07:40
mention something about their attire
07:42
everyone loves a compliment so someone
07:45
has some really cool shoes and you want
07:46
to be a you know genuine authentic with
07:48
this but give them a compliment it’s a
07:50
really good way to to start the to start
07:53
off on the right foot so give a
07:54
compliment and as you’re getting the
07:56
conversation started ask them you know
07:59
how can how can I help you
08:01
right you know Russell preaches on
08:03
giving value you can do the same thing
08:05
at a networking event and to break the
08:06
ice
08:06
you know how can I help you in your
08:08
business and also get to know him on it
08:11
on a deeper personal basis ask them what
08:13
are you passionate about right so don’t
08:15
just go in there handing off your
08:17
business escort but really get to know
08:18
the person you know find out what drives
08:21
them find out what they’re looking for
08:23
find out their experience at the event
08:24
and I think those three initial things
08:27
are a really good segue to get started
08:29
and building that rapport with whoever
08:30
you’re networking with I love that kind
08:34
of funny when I was a genius networks
08:35
last week with Sean Stephenson was there
08:37
and he and I were sitting next to each
08:38
other this topic kind of came up Danny
08:41
you know it goes back to the old saying
08:43
young people really could care less how
08:45
much you know is you know how much you
08:46
care and his yo Sean’s big thing is he’s
08:50
talking to people he what he’s really
08:51
always ask them is
08:52
so tell me once what’s what’s driving
08:55
you these days what is what project are
08:57
you most passionate about what’s what’s
08:58
the excitement in your life and how what
09:01
what see here is that then he’s always
09:03
thinking how can I help that person get
09:06
more of that excitement get more of that
09:07
passion in their life by doing things
09:09
for them and so again it’s so fun for
09:13
you watch really really good networkers
09:16
and how they can be in the exact same
09:19
setting the exact same situations those
09:20
people who have no clue what they’re
09:22
doing and really almost say the same
09:24
type of things but get completely
09:26
different results and so I appreciate
09:29
you know the importance of really caring
09:31
and getting more involved in the
09:32
person’s life and finding out more about
09:33
them so I think that’s fantastic
09:35
what are the tips or ideas yeah yeah
09:38
absolutely nie second that day so
09:41
another kind of way that you can really
09:44
as online marketers that we can really
09:46
benefit from attending networking events
09:48
is to also get feedback on your product
09:50
or service and also maybe get some
09:52
testimonials right so if you’re about to
09:55
launch online platform and you’re and
09:57
you’re really debating what price point
09:59
go out and speak to your target market
10:02
in person find out their feedback so
10:04
before you’re launching that feedback
10:06
can be very valuable towards towards
10:08
your specific effort so find out what
10:10
what other folks are charging in the
10:12
same industries find out a feedback and
10:15
if you connect with someone maybe give
10:17
them a trial or a demo of some kind
10:21
that’s also a great way to build up your
10:23
testimonials for your site that’s very
10:26
cool
10:27
so as you as you had the opportunity of
10:30
being around all this networking what
10:33
you know I literally had a lady here at
10:36
inner circle who was just talking to us
10:38
she had been a huge player in a very
10:41
large financial services company and
10:44
found out you know basically was told
10:47
you know the only place she can really
10:48
network her or build these relationships
10:51
is is at the bar and so she started that
10:54
and did that for years that all of a
10:55
sudden found herself almost you know
10:57
drinking too much and and felt like
10:59
there’s got to be a better way so I was
11:01
going to ask you with all the networking
11:03
obviously there’s usually food and
11:05
drinks and things involved how do you
11:06
it how do you go about doing it while
11:08
networking effectively in that type of
11:10
environment great question so there’s no
11:14
doubt that in a social environment you
11:16
know if you’re if the networking events
11:18
that allow you or are or nightlife
11:20
establishment there’s going to be all
11:22
gone involved and what you want to do is
11:25
you want to really go in with the
11:27
intention to to connect with people
11:29
build relationships and get on with your
11:31
day right it’s not a party it’s a
11:33
networking event so consider it kind of
11:35
a task for you to really go out connect
11:37
with who you want to connect with and
11:39
try not to get distracted by you know by
11:42
other things that are happening at the
11:43
event so you really kind of want to have
11:45
that intention of going out and
11:48
networking and and try to distance
11:50
yourself from all the from all the
11:52
distractions that can come about
11:53
networking can happen anywhere you know
11:55
you can network we were hosting monthly
11:58
networking events to get people the
11:59
platform to to network amongst each
12:01
other but networking can happen while
12:03
you’re in line at you know Starbucks it
12:05
can happen while your line at the bank
12:07
and it can happen in a variety of other
12:08
places so the same tools that you can
12:11
apply you can apply in multiple areas I
12:13
think that’s great that’s a great
12:15
feedback tell me as you with your I mean
12:19
again network after work is one of the
12:22
largest networking events out there how
12:24
do you guys come about and what are some
12:26
of the how do people find out about it
12:28
where as you know where some of the
12:30
places that how people take advantage of
12:33
it what should they do when they’re
12:33
there absolutely great question so
12:36
network after work started in 2009 by
12:39
James Miller and it quickly and just a
12:42
handful of years grew to be the largest
12:44
networking organization in the United
12:46
States so right now we’re currently
12:48
doing between 80 and 90 monthly events
12:51
across the country with anywhere between
12:53
100 and 400 attendees depending on on
12:56
the market that you’re in and so one of
12:59
the ways that we’ve grown so quickly and
13:01
scaled and scaled is through kind of our
13:03
integrated marketing you’re able to find
13:05
us through our meetup pages we have over
13:08
60 different meetup groups online we
13:11
also have over 60 different LinkedIn
13:12
groups we have a six million member
13:15
email list we have a weekly newsletter
13:18
in a handful of other ways that we help
13:21
promote our events and that has been
13:23
really effective for us as marketers and
13:25
spreading the word about the events and
13:27
getting people to register and come to
13:28
the events is by by creating an
13:31
integrated marketing approach and not
13:33
just focusing on having an email list
13:35
and email marketing but really being
13:37
able to utilize all other different
13:39
marketing channels to spread awareness
13:41
and get people to sign up and join our
13:43
list and ultimately attend our event
13:46
when you have those types of events is
13:48
it from a strategy standpoint for an
13:51
online marketer is it best to continue
13:53
going to the same events over and over
13:55
again the more well-known I know a lot
13:57
of people look at you know joining
13:58
things like you know B&I; or things like
14:00
that what what’s the best way to use
14:04
these type of networking events great
14:07
question so one of my my other tips is
14:10
really to get involved so what we do is
14:13
at every event we have new folks that
14:14
are coming you know we have your repeat
14:16
attendees that come every event but
14:18
overall even if you came every month 12
14:21
times a year you’re going to have the
14:22
chance to network with some new folks
14:25
and new small business owners so so get
14:28
involved find out who’s hosting the
14:30
event offer to be a volunteer right if
14:33
you’re if you’re at the front greeting
14:34
people you now have more of a
14:36
credibility as to who you are and so
14:39
after greeting people and once you’re
14:41
able to network with them it makes the
14:43
conversation stand out a little bit
14:45
better so ask who’s hosting the event
14:48
try to get involved try to volunteer and
14:50
and that’s that’s a key reason to really
14:53
differentiate yourself from the many
14:55
people that attend networking events I
14:57
love that that’s a great tip what’s it
15:00
and just take a look at some of these
15:02
events I know if it’s always fun for you
15:06
kind of watch those who are kind of on
15:07
the outside of the circle and they’re
15:08
trying to break in to be involved in the
15:11
circle where this one person is they
15:13
really want to meet is there any
15:14
strategy or tip on how to do that
15:16
tactfully yeah absolutely you want to be
15:22
respectful so you know if you’re in a
15:24
setting of three people you want to you
15:26
you don’t want to close your circle you
15:28
want to have your circle open and so if
15:30
you
15:31
looking to to connect with with folks
15:33
that have a circle close go on in and
15:35
introduce yourself and and join in that
15:38
little circle but make sure you don’t
15:39
close that circle so you’re so people
15:41
are going to be able to be invited into
15:44
your little group so you’re networking
15:45
events they’re not meant to be cliques
15:47
right the whole point is for you to be
15:49
able to network amongst each other and
15:51
one of the key things that we’ve done
15:53
that people that people really benefit
15:55
from is we have a strategic approach to
15:57
getting the networking done and I think
15:59
this is going to be great for online
16:01
marketers and funnel hackers in general
16:03
we have a strategic approach to
16:05
networking that that has that
16:07
encompasses your industry badge on
16:11
Europe that has your color-coded
16:14
industry badge so if I’m a marketer I
16:17
would have a red badge that says my name
16:19
in my company name and if I’m looking to
16:21
network and connect with a certain
16:23
industry I can look for those folks
16:25
based off of the color of their badge so
16:28
I’m looking to talk to medical
16:30
professionals if that’s my target that’s
16:32
why I’m building funnels for I can
16:34
navigate the event and find those folks
16:36
based off of the industries that they’re
16:38
working with so there’s kind of a
16:39
strategic approach to hosting these
16:41
events and I think that’ll be really
16:43
helpful for for folks that are targeting
16:45
particular industries that way if you
16:47
have no interests or benefit to
16:49
connecting with a particular industry
16:51
you can still you don’t really need to
16:53
find them you can really network with
16:54
who you need to network with and and
16:57
benefit that way I think it’s awesome
16:59
it’s a great idea so we kind of get
17:02
close to wrapping things up you’re like
17:04
what are some other tips or strategies
17:05
you want make sure if people leave with
17:08
absolutely what we mentioned get
17:10
involved you know networking events are
17:12
a great platform to find strategic
17:14
partners we talked about maybe
17:16
volunteering in a couple other things is
17:19
you can utilize networking events as a
17:21
way to grow your email list right we all
17:25
know that that building email list is
17:27
extremely important to us and networking
17:30
events gives you that ability to collect
17:32
business cards and build rapport and
17:34
continuously grow your email list so
17:36
deliver value and once once you have
17:39
that relationship built and you have a
17:41
product to offer then
17:43
networking events is really is a perfect
17:46
way to grow your email list in a
17:48
different capacity so I think growing
17:50
your email list delivering value
17:52
demonstrating your expertise I think
17:55
those are all really really great tips
17:57
but ultimately just like a gym
17:59
membership if you don’t go you don’t
18:01
grow so whether it’s a network after
18:03
work event or any other networking event
18:05
yet really go out there give it a shot
18:08
and and I think for those that really
18:10
give it a try they’re going to find that
18:12
it’s an excellent way to to promote
18:15
their products and services to connect
18:17
those other small business owners and to
18:19
help grow and scale their business I
18:21
love that well again thank you so much
