00:00

00:05
uncover the tactics and strategies top
00:07
entrepreneurs are using to make more
00:09
sales dominate their market and how you
00:12
can get those same results here is your
00:14
host dave woodward hey everybody welcome
00:18
back for lack of radio i’m your host
00:19
dave woodward today you guys are going
00:21
to love the opportunity of hearing from
00:23
our guest days this is garrett etsy
00:25
Barry Garin welcome my superior de peng
00:28
travel me I ask you again you guys may
00:31
not know Guerin cuz I didn’t but this is
00:34
a man who is responsible for four of my
00:37
podcast host this is a guy who is
00:39
connected with more people and I have
00:41
never ever asked anything of him he has
00:43
always been a giver give er give er give
00:46
er reached out to me after listen to a
00:48
couple of our episodes and said you know
00:50
what I think this would be a great
00:51
person to have for this would be a great
00:52
person to have and this has got gear I
00:55
think this went back almost six months
00:56
now but I thought I really wanted to
00:59
make sure that people had the
01:01
opportunity of understanding kind of how
01:02
you built to business what you’ve done
01:04
and more importantly than power of
01:06
networking and really providing value to
01:08
people so if you don’t mind let’s just
01:09
kind of dive in you okay with that no
01:11
it’s good awesome so try to give people
01:13
this a quick little story about yourself
01:15
and kind of where you come from where
01:17
you’re at and then be fantastic yeah
01:19
sure um yeah i’ll give you a little
01:21
story about myself just because I think
01:22
that you know I’m definitely not a big
01:27
time baller like a lot of your guests
01:28
have been but I think that I might have
01:30
a story that relates to you know closer
01:32
to where a lot of your listeners are
01:33
right now so I did you know everything
01:37
was expected of me in life I went down
01:39
the whole path I was supposed to go to I
01:40
went to a good college I went to grad
01:42
school I you know got good grades I got
01:45
a scholarship all this stuff and you
01:48
know I was used to my whole life getting
01:50
patted on the background smart I was and
01:52
how good I wasn’t school and all of a
01:54
sudden I didn’t translate into the real
01:55
world i graduated and boom it was in
01:57
2009 you know right in middle the
01:59
recession there was no jobs I’ve got his
02:02
expensive master’s degree and applying
02:04
for Ike minimum wage jobs and stuff and
02:06
it was you know it didn’t add up I’m
02:08
like I did everything I supposed to do
02:09
where’s you know where’s all the riches
02:11
in this
02:12
and everything so I went to work for my
02:15
family’s business and helped helped run
02:17
that for a few years and we sold it and
02:20
at that point I said you know what I
02:22
think it’s time for me to rather than
02:24
stay on with the new owner I’m going to
02:26
strike out and do my own thing and I
02:28
drove a lot in my job and I just listen
02:30
to podcast all day long so I kind of got
02:32
indoctrinated into this entrepreneurship
02:34
thing so at that point I thought
02:36
entrepreneurship meant like a
02:37
complicated startup so for my first year
02:40
of entrepreneurship I tried to start
02:42
this thing that was way too complicated
02:43
for me and they didn’t go anywhere and
02:47
didn’t make any money i live off of my
02:49
savings and I’m kind of a gun nut I so
02:51
love my guns to make a rent every month
02:52
it was in that second year I was like
02:56
man I can’t do that again I can’t waste
02:57
a whole year under my Vita that doesn’t
02:59
go anywhere so I’m going to start one
03:01
business every month this year and it’s
03:04
going to be like my real world mba i’m
03:06
just going to force myself to come up
03:07
with ideas throw things at the wall see
03:09
what sticks and a few things kind of
03:12
made some money most things you know
03:14
petered out pretty fast or died on the
03:16
vine but the cool thing was was in that
03:18
year i had a lot to show for myself I I
03:21
could say hey I know how to do a
03:22
copywriting here’s an example I know how
03:24
to build websites here’s a URL you can
03:26
go check out and then in that process I
03:28
just kind of started like getting on the
03:30
radar of different people that I look up
03:31
to and I kind of in that year found like
03:35
stumbled across as you know formula if I
03:37
get my foot in the door I said yes the
03:39
thing that comes my way I don’t know how
03:42
to do what I said that I know how to do
03:43
so I just locked myself in my bedroom
03:45
for a day or a weekend or a week or
03:47
would have to learn everything I can and
03:50
then once I got it the first time this
03:52
is kind of like you know funnel hacking
03:53
but in different areas like what
03:55
building website so what I did it at
03:56
once now I know how to do it and now I
03:57
can you know deliver for that client and
04:00
the next client goes ten times faster so
04:02
I just kept doing that and then it kind
04:04
of led to this whole cascading series of
04:06
relationships where person a introduced
04:08
me to be who introduced me to see and
04:09
now over the last couple years I’ve
04:11
gotten to work for a lot of my online
04:12
heroes and and you know really it’s been
04:15
a career but it’s been kinda like an
04:17
education as I get paid before where I
04:19
get to learn from people I look up to so
04:20
a lot of fun here and that’s absolutely
04:22
awesome I think what they have learned
04:24
about you through all this
04:25
process is you are such a massive action
04:27
taker and fear really isn’t is it too
04:32
big of an issue for you just kind of go
04:33
out you I’m gonna go out and do it no
04:34
matter what it takes I’m just going to
04:35
try see see what happens and I think
04:38
that’s the thing I’ve seen in my own
04:40
life as well as and the more of that
04:42
kind of stuff you can just do and just
04:44
just go all out and totally immerse
04:48
yourself in it whether it was
04:49
copywriting or immerse yourself and how
04:51
to create a website or whatever it might
04:53
be that’s how you really learn something
04:54
it’s those people kind of Seattle here
04:56
and there who really never quite figure
04:57
anything out and they look back three
04:59
and four years later it going and I
05:00
haven’t done anything yet because you
05:02
can’t commit and I think you’ve just
05:04
been such an awesome example for me of a
05:06
person who again totally commit your
05:08
will you go in you go all in and I think
05:10
that’s again congratulations on your
05:12
success and awesome well there’s a
05:14
couple things you said know that I’d
05:15
like to touch on you know you mentioned
05:17
the word fear in the word learning and I
05:19
feel like you know I heard the term
05:22
failure form the other day where
05:23
everybody talks about failure nowadays
05:25
it’s like the popular subject to talk
05:28
about and bail your porn yeah we’re all
05:32
these entrepreneurs nowadays it’s like
05:33
as it’s like a badge of honor how many
05:35
times you failed and I don’t know I just
05:37
I feel like that’s a recurring thing
05:39
right here on a lot of podcasts and it’s
05:41
I don’t know I feel like it’s been
05:43
inflated or you know kind of over
05:45
overblown and kind of the way that I
05:48
think about that is this might be a
05:50
weird analogy but I really like watching
05:53
MMA mixed martial arts and there’s this
05:56
guy Conor McGregor who’s like the most
05:57
famous fighter in the world right yeah
05:59
yeah and he talks about it’s not win or
06:02
lose that’s win or learn and that’s how
06:04
I think about failure or fear or
06:06
whatever it is is that it’s not like an
06:08
issue of do you have you know are you
06:11
fearless enough to jump in or do
06:13
something or can you overcome a failure
06:15
but it’s just there’s learning and
06:17
winning you know and it’s like I feel
06:18
like Howie mulch entrepreneurs don’t
06:19
look at it in terms of like do I succeed
06:22
or fail it’s just you know I feel like
06:24
I’ve heard rough we’ll talk about this a
06:25
lot before you just put in the work in
06:27
the first few times it’s not going to
06:28
work but you’re learning process you
06:30
know and you just you just kind of
06:32
accept it i’m not going to be great
06:33
right out of the gate and it’s not going
06:34
to be a failure it’s just that i need to
06:36
go through those iterations and in order
06:37
to build my skills and building
06:39
variances and then pretty soon you have
06:40
success so I don’t look at it like a
06:43
binary thing you know do you have you
06:46
know the guts to overcome fear or to
06:48
jump in whatever just you know is there
06:49
it’s a process and all you just have the
06:51
patience to go through the process I
06:53
love that I’ve such a huge fan of that
06:56
attitude and that’s that perspective on
06:57
life as far as the whole winner learned
06:59
I totally totally agree with you max
07:01
we’re coming up on my one-year mark here
07:04
next month as far as this whole
07:05
podcasting and I had no idea what I was
07:07
doing when i start at this way I get it
07:09
Russell’s a day I’d appreciate the
07:11
ghosts are a quick photo podcast I’m
07:13
like okay and so we just go all in and
07:16
is that spent a lot of fun now that I
07:18
kind of look back at it I get my son
07:19
week now does a lot of our
07:20
transcriptions our show notes and things
07:22
as my wife is actually looking at
07:24
creating your own podcast but the
07:26
partner found is I really again learn
07:29
the most out of all this thing it’s kind
07:31
of like you were talking about there and
07:32
I’ve heard from Russell and I actually I
07:33
talk of gear wide about this recently
07:35
that is you just have to understand that
07:38
when you first start you’re just going
07:40
to suck it’s just going to be terrible
07:42
and so you know what who cares just go
07:44
out and do it and you have to go out and
07:46
you have to learn learn that fine we’ll
07:48
find out what your voices and I think
07:49
fast can you do that and the more you
07:51
commit nuts again one thing i love about
07:53
what you do is you when you commit you
07:55
you commit to learn to just figured i’m
07:57
going to figure out how to do this thing
07:58
so I love that whole idea and one other
08:01
point about they had really quick to
08:02
that is that you know like I said I kind
08:05
of I don’t like this binary success or
08:07
failure thing and I look back at kind of
08:10
the two years where I was really
08:12
struggling to get income coming in the
08:14
door and you know at any given point in
08:17
that process I was like you know
08:19
honestly pretty freaked out like there
08:21
was a period where I have to grocery
08:23
stores on my house and one has self
08:25
checkout in one dozen and I would only
08:28
shop at the self checkout one because I
08:30
could buy my groceries with coins and
08:32
not being verified to giving her this
08:34
big pile of coins a human being to go
08:37
you’re buying some coins with the
08:39
groceries so yeah I mean there was
08:42
definitely some spots where it was
08:43
pretty rough um but when I look back I
08:46
think about that the idea of Moore’s law
08:48
you know where I think you know speed
08:51
doubles and price
08:53
abs every two years yeah and I was
08:55
reading Peter kills book 021 and he was
08:57
talking about that and I kinda have this
08:58
moment where I realized that that’s what
09:00
happens happen in my life he talks about
09:01
how you know why does some of these
09:04
industries or businesses seemingly
09:06
appear out of nowhere it’s because when
09:08
you’re going from point zero zero 22.00
09:10
for that still looks like zero to the
09:13
untrained eye and then from that 2.00
09:15
8.0 16 all that looks when you round
09:18
that but looks like the zero but once
09:20
you cross over into whole numbers then
09:22
you go one two four eight sixteen and
09:23
then boom you’re off to the races and I
09:26
think that’s what happened in my life
09:27
too you know where I have to just be
09:30
patient and i was i was making progress
09:32
i was doubling yeah i was moving forward
09:34
but i was looking at too high of a level
09:37
where i just i felt like i was a zero
09:39
but then once I kind of crossed that
09:41
threshold where things started to build
09:42
momentum then all of a sudden like kind
09:45
of like James Altucher always talks
09:46
about my big old picture fan you know
09:48
his life changes every six months and I
09:50
feel I guess what’s happened to me ever
09:51
since I crossed that at that point so i
09:52
don’t i feel like i’ve just been helpful
09:54
way for me to look at my own growth
09:55
where it gives a little bit more
09:56
patience man i’m so glad to share that
09:59
with people because that is such a true
10:00
principle in life i have seen that so
10:03
many times in my own life it’s a it’s
10:05
actually been a ton of fun here in the
10:07
office recently where we’re getting
10:08
ready for a funnel hacking live event
10:09
and you know one of the things we could
10:12
talk a lot about is you know you’re just
10:13
one funnel away and everyone has that
10:16
their own funnel whatever that funnel
10:17
might be and you know Russell knows had
10:19
a couple of was literally prevented
10:22
bankruptcy I was talk of gear wide about
10:24
a couple of his funnels he’s actually
10:25
speaking out of funnel hacking live
10:27
about his one funnel way that basically
10:29
saved his marriage and it’s also
10:31
fascinating to me you see really you’re
10:34
talking about where Moore’s law and
10:36
again spiritual you know 01 I love both
10:39
those principles because especially in
10:41
life you don’t it gets real frustrating
10:43
when you look at anything gosh I only
10:46
went from point zero zero 22.00 for but
10:49
as you mentioned once you cross over
10:50
those whole numbers and for me it’s one
10:52
of those things once you cross over and
10:53
you start having success it compounds
10:55
super super fast and that compounding
10:58
the success I one of the things where
11:00
you know you look back and hear this guy
11:01
through man they’re an overnight success
11:02
just 15 years to do and I just love love
11:07
you said and again I appreciate your
11:09
helping people understand that principle
11:10
thank you yeah sure so tell me what’s
11:14
that such things these days that you’re
11:16
focusing on and what do you what are you
11:19
looking to learn these days well my
11:24
focus right now is most of last year I
11:28
had I kind of mentioned I had a lot of
11:30
different jobs for people that I you
11:33
know admire and look up to and I was a
11:34
lot of fun and right now i’m working
11:37
with mike dillard on a new project so
11:40
that’s kind of my main focus and I get
11:42
to learn from him so I guess right now
11:45
you know what I’m looking to learn and
11:47
maybe this was kind of segue into our
11:48
next little piece of conversation here
11:50
but I feel like so far I kind of
11:54
mastered this idea of like a bridge
11:56
business where i used to be stuck in a
11:59
day job that I wasn’t crazy about and
12:02
you know I knew that it was possible to
12:05
do something different but didn’t quite
12:07
know how so I’ve kind of figured out how
12:10
to deliberate myself from that I haven’t
12:11
had to go to a day job in four years and
12:13
I make way more money than I used to but
12:16
now you know like I listen to your
12:17
podcast and I see these guys like
12:19
Garrett white and and like Russell and
12:23
like the tool time and Dale a handful or
12:27
in these people and I’m like that but
12:28
that’s the level that I want to get to
12:30
you know I want to take that next big
12:31
step so and yeah just learning from
12:34
everywhere I’ve been working for and
12:35
applying a lot of my own you know own
12:37
products or tunnels or whatever but yeah
12:40
so that’ll be the next step but like I
12:41
said right now I’m really excited to be
12:42
to be working with the people and
12:44
working with that’s awesome mike is a
12:46
great friend and he’s been it again a
12:48
wonderful mentor for myself but I know
12:50
I’m sure you’re doing spend time exam
12:52
he’s got such grandiose ideas and stuff
12:54
he’s working on it def is cutting
12:56
cutting edge stuff I love again my
12:58
feelers a great great brandon i wish you
13:00
all the best and work with deniz you’ll
13:02
learn a lot again for sure yeah I have
13:04
so far definitely and you know many one
13:07
thing I’d like to share with people too
13:09
i I don’t I don’t know I don’t it’s not
13:12
like a big secret the people that I’ve
13:13
worked with I feel a little weird like
13:15
if I were to let me like I was look
13:17
name-dropping or something so I don’t
13:19
know what this look a weird that’s where
13:20
as I do
13:21
don’t share but um you guys what
13:25
something I do want to tell people is
13:26
thing I’ve worked with all these
13:27
high-level performing people and its
13:30
really interesting seeing these
13:31
similarities between a lot of them and I
13:35
think the number one thing that I’ve
13:36
learned from everybody I’ve worked with
13:37
is that it doesn’t usually their success
13:42
doesn’t come down to one thing that they
13:44
are just so amazingly good at you know
13:46
like like I’m sure if you were to hang
13:49
out with I don’t know I’m not much of a
13:50
sports guy but say you hung out with
13:51
LeBron James and you would go oh my gosh
13:54
he does XYZ better than anybody else
13:56
he’s a better shooter he’s a better
13:58
whatever but I don’t think that’s
14:00
necessarily the same thing with a lot of
14:01
the entrepreneurs I work with I don’t go
14:03
oh my gosh they are just the smartest
14:05
copywriter in the entire world like in
14:07
dillards casey’s is obviously a very
14:09
very good copywriter but most of them it
14:11
just comes down to like this self belief
14:14
that they have there yes well nothing
14:18
sir and they go I’m gonna do it nothing
14:20
is going to stop me and I don’t doubt
14:22
myself I’m not embarrassed to say it out
14:24
loud in that’s the reoccurring theme is
14:27
that they just they’re going to make it
14:28
happen no matter what and it’s not even
14:30
like I don’t even mean it like if some
14:33
people talk about entrepreneurship with
14:35
imagery of like you know warriors about
14:37
how they’re going to go out and they’re
14:38
just going to be ruthless and relentless
14:41
and nothing’s going to stop them it’s
14:42
not even like that aggressive it’s just
14:44
like it’s just a state and effect it’s
14:46
going to happen and that’s it so I
14:48
totally agree with you on that so see
14:50
that yeah I completely agree it says
14:53
it’s this ingrown confidence and what
14:57
are their fake it until they make it or
14:59
not doesn’t matter it’s honestly it’s
15:01
dead but that’s again it’s just a solid
15:03
belief that I don’t care what I have to
15:05
go through I know where I’m going and
15:06
the nurse can take you to get there I’m
15:08
going to pay that price you know to make
15:10
that happen and the guys are just uh we
15:13
just have a lunch to just came back from
15:15
Russell philosophers what they’re
15:16
talking about that a guy who is trying
15:19
to create a trying to help people in
15:22
their business to be more successful and
15:25
says you know there’s eight rules you
15:26
need to follow and it was kind of go
15:28
through with the Madras one’s defective
15:29
and the one these rules is you have to
15:32
believe that you are better than
15:33
every other human being out there and
15:35
nothing else matters and Russell click
15:37
you know I don’t know if I cadet if
15:39
you’d actually put that down as a rule I
15:40
sensed I think you got to be confident
15:42
but the stakes that you’re better than
15:43
every other human being on the planet
15:44
that might be a tough thing for people
15:46
to grasp and Italy but at the same time
15:49
I agree with what you’re saying where
15:51
that confidence is is one of the main
15:53
things getting it everybody I love your
15:56
comments farcical failure porn it’s
15:59
interested you talk with a lot of guys
16:01
who have every entrepreneur each had
16:03
their ups and downs you know i was
16:04
looking at james ulta to be stuff and
16:07
read through his things actually I
16:10
wasn’t familiar with them until you
16:11
mentioned it so while run Bach is my
16:12
kind of have this guy’s and I’ve just
16:14
look at his commentary always found and
16:16
co-founder 20 companies including reset
16:18
and stock picker it says he failed at
16:19
seventeen of them but it doesn’t matter
16:21
it’s one of those things that you again
16:23
it’s just as you’re talking about
16:25
earlier during that it’s that whole win
16:26
or learn and learn fast and move forward
16:29
and keep going so again totally ryona
16:31
yeah definitely cool as you go ahead
16:35
you’re in together no I was just yeah
16:38
that’s great what we’re gonna I I’m
16:41
curious as far as you know one of the
16:43
things people are always trying to find
16:44
and you were kind of alluding to it
16:46
right there as far as you know what’s
16:47
the secret of success for for some of
16:49
these people and you can this podcast on
16:54
totally fine if you want to drop Nance’s
16:55
not going to matter me one bit but as as
16:58
you take a look at it and what you’re
16:59
referring to Derek stars they weren’t
17:00
really good at one thing is that
17:02
confidence what are some of the other
17:04
success things you’ve seen one
17:07
reoccurring theme that isn’t really
17:09
interesting is so I know you guys were
17:13
good friends with the drum cannoli yes
17:15
and I work with him for a while and I
17:17
spent some time with him and he was
17:21
telling me kind of how he got his start
17:22
and there was a period wherein I hope I
17:27
don’t mess up his story too much and you
17:29
know speak on his behalf but he got a
17:33
job that it involved a lot of grunt work
17:37
it would hit has something to do with
17:38
like selling not insurance but something
17:43
something where he had a giant binder of
17:45
names
17:46
and he had her just essentially the zinc
17:48
phone calls for 14 hours a day and try
17:50
to get people to you know sign up for
17:52
something or to buy some package or
17:54
whatever it was and it’s one of the kind
17:56
of like those grunt jobs where you know
17:59
you get sucked into it somehow somebody
18:01
tells you can make good money doing it
18:03
and then you realize that it’s terrible
18:04
than you burn out in a month it can come
18:09
I cutco you know I friends okay yeah so
18:13
but drew is the kind of guy where you
18:15
just tell him okay this is your path to
18:17
success and he goes all right this is
18:18
this is how I get there great in that in
18:22
he you know he made more phone calls
18:23
than anybody else he closed more deals
18:25
anybody else and in a pretty short
18:26
period of time I don’t know what the
18:28
numbers were but he was making this
18:29
ridiculous money and you know
18:31
ninety-nine point nine percent of us
18:33
would have that job like oh my gosh is
18:35
mindless its repetitive it’s not fun how
18:37
is it going to go anywhere but Drew’s
18:39
the one guy who goes alright if this is
18:41
what’s going to get me there I’m just
18:43
going to go all in I’m going to make it
18:44
happen and I’ve seen that mindset with a
18:48
lot of people that I’ve worked with
18:49
where um like another guy I can’t really
18:52
introduced him to you guys in brandon
18:55
hampton he’s a big like online
18:56
social-media influencer and yeah so he
19:00
did the same thing he he works at a one
19:04
of those kiosks in the mall selling and
19:06
cell phones and same thing most people
19:08
would go this is stupid i gotta stand
19:10
here in the middle of the foot traffic
19:11
and try to catch people attention and
19:13
stop them get him interested in buying
19:16
my whatever and most people that hate
19:17
that job and he said alright this is my
19:19
path of success i’m going to do it in
19:21
pretty soon he was making like high six
19:24
figures or something working at this
19:25
little thing at the mall and it’s just
19:27
been really inspiring to me like i said
19:30
you know i think a lot of people look at
19:31
these entrepreneurs they let they look
19:33
up to online and they think oh well they
19:35
have something I don’t have they’re
19:36
smarter than I have that I am they have
19:38
a skill set that I don’t have they have
19:41
some kind of access to resources or
19:44
people or capital that I don’t have but
19:46
I’ve kind of seen it over and over again
19:48
that really the common denominator is
19:50
just as mindset of life everybody else
19:51
has no I’m going to say yes i’m going to
19:53
go 100 percentage make it happen and I
19:55
just that’s the one thing that I that
19:57
I’ve pulled out for sure I love
20:00
well tell me is we get kind of closer to
20:02
wrapping things up here is there
20:03
anything specifically why make sure we
20:04
cover before we can kind of wrap things
20:06
up yeah maybe a couple things I know
20:08
that you had asked me about providing
20:11
value and I wanna I don’t want this to
20:13
be you know all theory I’d like to kind
20:15
of give something tangible to people so
20:17
I kind of jotted down some notes Wow
20:19
yeah so it was just kind of some things
20:22
that I would like to you know in part to
20:25
people that might be helpful for them so
20:27
one thing I’d like to tell people
20:30
because people ask me all the time oh
20:32
you know you worked with choose yourself
20:35
I I love James Altucher to I want to get
20:37
on his radar and so how do i do it and
20:41
then how immediately the question is how
20:44
do I get what I want out of it you know
20:45
I I want some connection to promote from
20:49
on my business I want you know to make
20:52
affiliate sales whatever it is and I
20:55
always tell people like you literally
20:57
cannot have able you try to provide
21:00
value to somebody don’t have any
21:02
expectation of return whatsoever and a
21:06
lot of people here that and they go well
21:07
it isn’t it doesn’t make sense like why
21:09
am I going to you know give my time and
21:11
my energy nothing’s ever going to come
21:12
back to me and I don’t I just feel like
21:15
like with you and I talking right now
21:17
like I tried to help you in a few small
21:20
ways it wasn’t a huge deal but um you
21:23
know I didn’t want anything in return I
21:25
just wanted to try to find some way to
21:27
connect you know so that’s it that’s the
21:29
first thing that’s it you know don’t
21:31
ever go into a relationship immediately
21:34
expecting something out of it and one
21:37
thing I would tell people that makes
21:38
that a lot easier to digest is that I
21:40
really don’t think that people like
21:42
other people have really that big of a
21:45
ability to change your life dramatically
21:47
like a lot of i remember why i first
21:49
started an entrepreneurship i would
21:51
tweet people or you know communicate
21:54
with them on social media somehow and
21:55
i’d get a retweet and I go oh my gosh
21:57
this is it I’m gonna go no nothing
22:02
happens you know so these people that
22:05
you look up to they’re not these magical
22:06
arbiters of success where they can just
22:08
sprinkle you know pixie dust on you and
22:10
all of a sudden your business blows up
22:11
or whatever it is so um
22:13
yeah I would look at relationships as
22:16
for the transaction like that word
22:18
really that much can happen to begin
22:19
with so just just give just because you
22:21
want to and another like one thing that
22:25
James salted your talks about a lot is
22:26
the idea muscle you know that your
22:29
ability that generate ideas can be built
22:32
just like your biceps or anything else
22:34
to exercise that muscle only gets bigger
22:35
and I think that there are like kind of
22:39
subcategories of your idea muscle and
22:41
one of those is what ways to provide
22:43
value to people you know like for me
22:45
like connecting with you I just kind of
22:48
realize like I’m listening to your
22:49
podcast anyways and as I as I listened
22:53
to it ideas pop into my head it takes me
22:55
no extra time to just email you and go
22:57
hey here’s an idea here’s somebody that
22:58
I know I that might be a good fit or
22:59
whatever it is and the more you do that
23:02
the more you know the more ideas come to
23:04
you and the easier it becomes to
23:06
identify ways to provide value to people
23:08
so that’s something i would encourage
23:10
people do is just kind of exercise that
23:13
idea muscle of how to provide value to
23:15
people and there’s a lot of things that
23:16
you do anyways your artist in the
23:17
podcaster already look reading books
23:19
you’re already you know opting in the
23:21
different company sales funnels or
23:23
whatever and it becomes not that
23:24
difficult to provide value to people
23:26
that is awesome awesome thing i can i am
23:31
a huge believer in both those principles
23:32
and i love the idea as far as the idea
23:35
muscle because i’ve seen that happen so
23:37
many times those people who do cavities
23:40
I my gosh science can tell you countless
23:42
stories of people that I know that ideas
23:44
but you know what someone else have that
23:46
same idea and they acted on it you
23:47
didn’t that was the difference and the
23:49
more often that you act on those ideas
23:51
and those impulses the more that you get
23:53
and I think it’s a great i love i
23:55
appreciate so much for sharing that yeah
23:57
and i think that that partner is really
23:59
well too especially like a lot of
24:01
listeners right now and this has been
24:03
true in my life where you kind of think
24:05
all right well i’m in some ideas to
24:06
somebody how you know I’m just I’m just
24:09
um do listen to a podcast while i’m on
24:11
my commute like what do I know that
24:13
there’s really helpful for them but you
24:15
know I feel like there was a period in
24:18
my life where I was on the consumption
24:21
but I was consuming more content than I
24:23
was taking action in a lot of the people
24:26
that I look up to their kind of the
24:26
opposite
24:27
running businesses they’re not awed
24:28
gasps all day long they’re not
24:30
researching you know other industries or
24:32
whatever there are they’re busy running
24:33
their businesses so I felt like you know
24:35
I was kind of in this position where I
24:36
can become a curator of ideas where i
24:39
could email somebody and I could go hey
24:41
you know everything there is to know
24:42
about building sales funnels but you
24:45
probably don’t know you know some some
24:49
principle that’s working in some
24:50
completely unrelated industry like I
24:52
mentioned as a gun that before you know
24:53
side i watch all these firearm channels
24:55
on youtube so i could reach out to a
24:57
sales funnel person and say hey I’ve
24:59
noticed that everybody in the firearms
25:01
industry is this is a really weird
25:02
example I apologize but they’re all
25:05
marketing technique maybe there’s a way
25:07
that you could apply it to your industry
25:08
so I feel like even when you’re just a
25:11
consumer of content you can become a
25:13
curator of ideas like that and you can
25:14
kind of you know be in the middle of all
25:16
these other industries it’s kind of
25:17
pedal ideas to everybody here and that’s
25:19
awesome I think that I looked at my
25:23
relationship with Russell over all these
25:24
years and it started off that same way
25:26
it was the same how about this or how
25:28
about that so no I totally totally agree
25:30
with you on that date because I mean
25:33
you’re busy in your own business and
25:35
that’s why I have loved every email i
25:37
get from you I almost look forward to go
25:39
gosh wonder what he’s got now because
25:40
you’ve just been such a huge provider
25:42
massive value to me into our business
25:44
and things and I get sole reason I
25:46
wanted to be on the podcasters you come
25:48
from a different approach in so many
25:51
times I get I mean I can’t tell you the
25:53
number of emails we receive hey promote
25:55
this promote this hey you know what I’d
25:57
like to jb with this and its really got
25:59
this point now where I think people of
26:01
energy / to all out and the answer
26:03
almost as always know so we just don’t
26:05
promote anything but it’s been
26:07
interesting to see when you try to be
26:11
creative with it how it’s a completely
26:13
different response and I love how you
26:16
again you reach the op amenity Daisy
26:17
don’t know me but I thought I was listen
26:20
to this podcast I loved what you know
26:21
not because Brandon Kailyn what they
26:23
originally said and I like that and I
26:25
also like Gayle hensel’s so I would
26:27
think if this yes might be great for you
26:28
as well and it’s let is this wonderful
26:30
friendship and I’ve again I really
26:31
appreciate your and all that you
26:32
provided to us and and you do such a
26:34
great job at helping other people
26:36
understand the importance of
26:39
relationships in this online world
26:41
and yet how it’s much more than just you
26:44
know ones and zeros that there’s another
26:46
person on inside of that email who
26:47
really does care what you’re saying who
26:49
does care the death that you like the
26:51
content that’s being produced in that
26:52
you’re saying hey you know what you
26:53
might want to consider this so again I
26:55
thank you personally a ton for for all
26:57
that you’ve done to help our business
26:58
yeah and the same thing right back at
27:00
you you know the reason why I reached
27:01
out is because this is you’ve been an
27:03
important podcasts for me I really enjoy
27:05
there’s a lot of podcast listen to for
27:07
entertainment or for inspiration or
27:10
motivation but this one is pretty
27:12
tactical and it’s really fun getting to
27:15
seek out the behind the scenes of
27:16
businesses and and you know actually
27:18
learn specific things that I can
27:19
implement myself so it’s been really fun
27:20
so yeah definitely thank you and before
27:23
we wrap up I kind of I don’t want to
27:25
share one last thing and and it’ll kind
27:28
of inadvertently turn into a plug for
27:30
you guys if that’s okay you want put
27:32
your affiliate link in this case haha
27:34
yeah I got to get one set up oh well so
27:39
I would talk to about my story a little
27:41
bit and about how you know I went to
27:42
college and and I got a MBA and how you
27:46
know my mb I didn’t I didn’t learn
27:47
anything that could actually be applied
27:49
to the real world you know they’re just
27:50
more more theory but I didn’t I don’t
27:52
feel like I really had skills that I
27:54
could go out and tell somebody oh hey
27:55
this is something that I know how to do
27:57
you know give me money and then in that
28:02
process of trying to start my own
28:03
business I found out that there were so
28:05
many things that were the opposite of
28:07
that were like I may member pain myself
28:09
but you can lock yourself in your
28:11
bedroom for a weekend and you can teach
28:13
yourself a skill set you can you know on
28:15
monday morning go out and get a job
28:17
doing or you can you know set ideas to
28:19
ten ideas different businesses you can
28:21
say oh by the way if you want me to
28:22
implement this i have the chops to back
28:24
it up and that applies to a web design
28:26
it applies to graphic design it applies
28:30
to you know copywriting there’s there so
28:35
many things and like for a while I mean
28:37
quite a large percentage of my income by
28:40
building websites and there was a
28:44
wordpress theme that I used called
28:46
headway themes and it just it was kind
28:49
of like this this secret the nominee
28:51
knew that it existed but I mean it’s so
28:52
fast and easy to build websites so
28:54
what I would do is I would send somebody
28:56
ten ideas and I go oh by the way I
28:58
actually built you know a website you
29:00
can go to this URL and see a right now
29:02
so that they weren’t getting they
29:04
weren’t saying yes to one idea but they
29:05
were saying yes and something tangible
29:06
they look because I actually want that
29:08
website sure well my point is twofold
29:11
one is that if anybody’s listening to
29:14
this and they’re trying to find you know
29:15
a way to make income or kind of liberate
29:18
themselves from a day job I’m such a big
29:20
believer in this idea of skills you know
29:21
that you can teach yourself something
29:22
quickly and start freelancing it and the
29:24
second thing is is that if i were to
29:26
tell anybody what they should do right
29:27
now like what skill set it’s a hundred
29:29
percent clickfunnels because because
29:32
like even if you just wanted to build
29:35
websites you didn’t want to build sales
29:37
funnels it’s so easy to build websites
29:40
even that headway themes with my ace up
29:42
my sleeve and click funnels is 10 times
29:44
easier than that is so for building
29:46
sites it’s fantastic and then I’ve had
29:49
so many conversations in just the past
29:51
few weeks talking to the two like non
29:54
online businesses about sales funnels
29:57
and I was talking to a veterinarian
29:59
other day and he was like oh my gosh how
30:01
can I use this for my for my vet
30:03
business this is fantastic and I’m just
30:06
now kind of started starting to
30:07
accidentally get you know funnel hacking
30:10
clients and build and sales funnels four
30:11
people and i think that there’s just so
30:13
many ways to apply their different
30:14
industries so i think that if you you
30:15
know if you want a gig right now lock
30:17
yourself in your weekend in your bedroom
30:18
for a weekend learn click funnels and
30:20
the sort consulting for i think that’s a
30:22
great path to start making some income
30:24
there you go again providing more value
30:27
here and i appreciate it a ton and i
